Meet The Doctor
DR. HOEWISCH HAS A PERSONAL STORY
Dr. David Hoewisch, born in Milwaukee, Wisconsin, was raised by parents who were deaf. Due to spinal meningitis at age 3, his father lost his hearing. At age 4, as the result of an ear infection, his mother lost her hearing. For young David, his first language was probably sign language. He learned to speak it just as children of hearing parents learn to speak orally. For example, he learned the signs for milk, butter, please, and thank you at the family dinner table. During his childhood, he was often asked by his parents to interpret such things as TV shows, doctor’s visits, the presentations of door-to-door salesmen, and parent-teacher meetings. One thing that stuck in his mind during all of these encounters was the incomplete understanding on the part of everyone involved in the communication. These feelings led to an intense desire to provide chiropractic care for the deaf community. Dr. Hoewisch says that it is a thrill to see the ‘light bulb’ go on above someone’s head when he explains his or her health condition, the options available, and how chiropractic can help. Because those who are deaf can communicate directly with Dr. Hoewisch when they come in, when they are finished explaining everything behind their latest flare-up, they know that Dr. Hoewisch knows the whole story, too.
DR. HOEWISCH IS WELL-EDUCATED
In 1970 Dr. Hoewisch received a Bachelor of Science degree from Carroll College, Waukesha, Wisconsin. In 1982, he received a Doctor of Chiropractic from Palmer College of Chiropractic, Davenport, Iowa. Dr. Hoewisch is a passionate learner and has extended his training to include techniques such as Gonstead, Activator, Pettibon, Biophysics, Motion Palpation, and sports injuries.
